Rather than go into a long litany on what you should do regarding graphics and colors we think it would be much simpler to suggest what you should not do. |
Colors |
People in different countries respond to colors differently. For instance in China red and yellow are the most commonly used colors for websites. In the USA the most common colors are blue and white. But there are some colors that pretty much everyone responds to negatively on a website. These include pink, orange, purple, yellow. A hint of these is fine, but too much and people may leave your website to avoid excess eyestrain. Another thing is bright neon colors are great for highlighting in a banner but should almost never be used as a primary color on a website because they overwhelm the human eye. They are so bright and distracting that it makes it very difficult for people to read your text. |
Graphics |
One thing that most people do not consider as they are putting together a beautiful website full of pictures and graphics is the load time. And yet, load time is critical to your websites rankings and whether people stay on your website or not. Keep in mind that you may have high speed Internet access, but not everyone does. And so what looks like it loads fast to you may load slow for them. Another factor is that once you have visited the website a copy of it is stored in your computers memory and so now your computer doesn't need to download the graphics again. So the website may appear to load much faster for you than for people who are visiting your website for the first time. Basically, if your website loads slowly, many people will leave quickly and you will never get a chance to sell them your products or services. |
